- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Downpatrick, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the chosen vehicle category, is required and must have been held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Renters must also present valid identification and proof of current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional criteria may apply as outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Options
- Reservations can be made via our website, by calling us, or by visiting our Downpatrick office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle pickup. All pricing is listed in British Pounds (£) and includes VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, ensure a thorough inspection for any pre-existing damage and report it without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed at this time. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, accounting only for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when collected; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, and you should contact us promptly if you anticipate a delay. Insurance and Responsibility

Additional insurance options may be available to help minimize your financial liability. It is important to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless additional insurance is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms is your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Changes and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking you make and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. This includes racing, off-roading, or other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not permitted. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used for purposes it was not designed for, and exceeding passenger or weight limits is unacceptable. Traveling outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Limitation of Responsibility
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Downpatrick is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is capped at the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not affect liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively within English and Welsh courts.
